William J. Bates

William J. Bates, 82, died peacefully on June 13, 2022. Born and raised in Philadelphia, he attended Roman Catholic High School. He was proud to serve in the Air Force during the Vietnam War and worked at Philadelphia Electric for 31 years as supervisor of computer operations. He met the love of his life, Geraldine Tempone, and they were married for 45 years before she passed in 2009. He was a devout Catholic belonging to St. Isadore’s Church in Quakertown, and a lover of all things “Philly - especially the Flyers, Phillies and Eagles. Besides his wife, he was predeceased by his parents, Louis and Marguerite Bates. He is survived by his children: Carolyn (Jeffrey), Bernadette (Edwin), and Louis Bates; and seven grandchildren: J.P., Brad and Emily Grove; Jackson, Kerri and Kasey Piper; and Cecelia Bates. Relatives and friends are invited to his viewing on Wednesday, June 22 from 6 to 8 PM at the Scanlin McDonald Funeral Home at 175 E. Butler Ave. Chalfont, PA 18914, and Thursday morning at 10 AM at St. Jude Church 321 W. Butler Ave Chalfont, PA. Requiem mass will follow at 11:00 AM and interment to follow at Our Lady of Grace Cemetery in Langhorne, PA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Disabled Vets at www.dav.org.
