Vernon H. Benson, Sr. passed away, after a three-year battle with Multiple Myeloma, on Wednesday, March 6, 2019 at Chestnut Hill Hospital. He was 77.
Born in Philadelphia, PA, he was the son of the late Evelyn Benson Hines, brother of Deborah Hines and beloved husband of Roberta (Bobbi) Benson. He was the father of 3 children, Vernon, Jr., Tinamae and Solomon and 3 stepchildren, Lynne, Lori and Brett (and his wife, Alicia). Vernon was the grandfather of 9 grandchildren - Saheena, Crystal, Calvin, Danielle, Gabrielle, Kayla, Brandon, Justin, Jenna, and 5 great-grandchildren.
Vernon was an active member of Pleasantville United Church of Christ where he served as a Trustee, Sexton, and Sunday School Teacher. He also participated in the Tuesday morning Men of Faith. Vernon had a big personality, was a fun-loving person with a great sense of humor. He was kind, thoughtful and always willing to lend a helping hand. Vernon loved boxing and basketball, especially March Madness. He was also a football fan. Although he was happy to see the Philadelphia Eagles win the Super Bowl, his allegiance was always to his beloved team, the Miami Dolphins. He was a movie buff with an impressive collection of classic films. He loved to binge watch tv series and could always provide a recommendation for the newest, most interesting shows. Vernon lovingly cared for 2 cats, Taffy and Smokey, who brought him much pleasure.
Friends and family are invited to attend his viewing from 10-11 AM, Friday, March 15, 2019 at Pleasantville United Church of Christ, 3424 Limekiln Pike, Chalfont, PA 18914. The funeral service will be held at 11 AM followed by a graveside service at the church cemetery.
