Samuel Martin Herb, 82, passed away peacefully in his sleep at home in New Britain on May 3, 2021.

Born in Philadelphia on November 29, 1938, he was the son of the late Samuel F. and Mildred V. Herb.  He was the oldest of 4 siblings, Marianne Hancock (deceased), Joseph Herb (Janet), and Carol Ellis (Leo).  He was the husband to the late Judith A. (Oeach) and companion to Mary Anne Devine.  He was the father of four children, Samuel S Herb (Cathy), Corinne M. Ensor (Scott), the late David M Herb and Elizabeth A. Grasmeder (Jim); a grandfather of six, Jeffery, Kelly, Ashleigh, William, Samantha and Noelle plus a great-grandfather to five.  He also has many nieces and nephews.

He graduated LaSalle College High School in 1956 and met monthly with his graduating class (the 56ers).  He earned a B.S. degree from Drexel University in Electrical Engineering.  He worked for several instrument and control system companies during his career due to various mergers eventually transitioning into consultation and education and was able to travel the world by lecturing multi-day courses.   Upon “retirement” he established a consulting firm to continue his skills.  He was deeply involved with his faith and his church; hosting prayer meetings, serving on committees, and was active in the Eucharist Ministry team.  Boy Scouts were also central to his life, starting out as a scout then being involved in leadership and training as well as being a father to two scouts.  He had a lifelong passion with trains and the many facets of that hobby, including as a docent for the Reading Railroad Heritage Museum. He enjoyed spending time with his family older and younger alike and always was the one to get involved and share his talents wherever life placed him.  Sam was loved and will be missed now that he left for his final trip to see family he has not seen in a long time.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate his Mass 11 AM, Thursday, May 6, 2021 at St. Jude Church, 321 West Butler Ave, Chalfont, PA 18914 where his viewing will begin at 10 AM.  Interment will follow at St. John Neumann Cemetery.  Please remember to wear masks and follow social distancing guidelines.  In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to St. Jude Church and Shrine at www.stjudechalfont.org/memorial-giving ; Washington Crossing Council, BSA at bsawcc.org/support-scouting/make-a-memorial-gift/ or Reading Railroad Heritage Museum at www.readingrailroad.org/donationform.shtml .
