Richard Robert Madge left this world on May 28, 2023, at the age of 32, survived by his father Ed, mother Gail, and sister Erica.
Richard embraced life, showing us how happiness can be found even in unlikely situations. Being diagnosed with spinal muscular atrophy at six months old, Richard had to learn to live in a body that would frustrate most; he did much more than just live, he was truly and profoundly happy and was able to spread that to those around him. People did not leave Richard's presence without a laugh and a smile on their face, and that was all he wanted.
Richard met many people on his journey, starting early with his family of grandparents, aunts, uncles, and many cousins. As he got older, he was privileged enough to have a team of nurses that cared deeply for him; many of his nurses refusing to leave, and staying on for decades just to stay with him. In addition to his nurses, Richard also had the opportunity to spend many years at the Widener Memorial School where his name is still recognized 10 years later.
Even after he passed, he will be able to continue to live on in others. Richard was able to participate in the Gift of Life organ donation program, and his family will always find comfort knowing he gave others a second chance at life.
Funeral Service will be held at Chalfont United Methodist Church 11 Meadowbrook Lane Chalfont, PA 18914 on Saturday, June 3, 2023, at 11 AM, with visitation starting at 10 AM. Interment Private.
In lieu of flowers donations to either the Gift of Life Donor Program 401 N 3rd. Street Philadelphia, PA 19123 or to Cure SMA at www.curesma.org would be appreciated.
