Richard H. Smith, born October 10, passed away May 10, 2022 at the age of 72 from complications of heart surgery with his son and wife by his side. Rich was the beloved son of the late Marion Jennings Smith and the late Richard Schmittle Smith and brother of Barbara Smith Hoover. Husband to LouAnne Dunlevy Smith, proud father of Richard JC Smith and his wife Theresa and the late SuzAnne S. Smith-Chestman and her husband Michael Chestman. PopPop of 9 grandchildren, Julianne, Kaliegh, Jared, Zachory, Patricia, Jocelyn, Jaden, Meadow, and Eleanor. Uncle and cousin to many. Rich had many interests, including reading and the beach. He discovered computers in the 70’s, becoming a software engineer and then started building robots. Rich and LouAnne started a company together in which they developed a desktop computer used to control a satellite that watched the ozone hole, replacing a room full of computers. This led to the opportunity to work at NASA, hence we called him a rocket scientist. The love of music took him to many festivals and love of Bluegrass music and a great group of friends called the Grillbillies. His latest hobby was boon docking and he recently returned from a 3-month trip to the southwestern states reconnecting with distant family and nature. We will be celebrating Rich’s life May 21st at 1pm in the Enchanted Forest in Ben Jarnutowski’s backyard at 130 Upper Church Road, Chalfont, PA 18914 next to Hilltown Baptist Church located at Upper Stump and Upper Church Roads. Beware if you use address for location it takes you down the street. Donations may be given to American Heart Association.
