Raymond "Ray" Coleman of Doylestown, was called home to be with his Heavenly Father on Sunday, September 19, 2021 at the age of 96. Born in Alpine, TN, he was the son of the late William Haskell Coleman and Eola Elizabeth Coleman. Ray is survived by Florence; his loving children, Kandi, Brad & Debbie; two brothers, William Coleman & Joseph Coleman; three grandchildren whom he loved dearly, Ryan, Chad & Marissa. He was predeceased by his son, Murray and brother James.

Ray graduated from Hatboro High School in 1943. He then served in the Army Air Force 1943-1946 during the China, Burma, India Theater of Operation. He later was in the Reserves from 1946-1950.  Ray earned his B.S. in Health & Physical Education, History, and Science at East Stroudsburg State College with the help of the GI bill in 1950.  He later earned his Masters in Education from Temple University in 1954. Ray worked at Abington School District as a teacher, coach and athletic director from 1950-1986. Ray coached basketball, baseball, football, soccer, girl's golf and girl's swimming. He started and coached the soccer program at Penn State University Ogontz Center from 1953-1954. Ray was also the athletic director at Shelton College (Ringwood, NJ) where he originated the soccer & basketball programs. Ray officiated football for 25 years, soccer for 15 years, basketball for 5 years and baseball for 5 years.  After retirement, Ray served 35 years as Executive Secretary of the Suburban One League (SOL), stepping down in June 2021. Ray was involved in SOL for a total of 72 years.

Ray will be remembered as a man of faith. He was joyful, kind, selfless and a positive influence to all he met. Ray was a great father, grandfather, brother, uncle, teacher, athletic director and coach. He was instrumental to the Suburban One League and many other high school sports programs.  Ray enjoyed watching his grandchildren in all of their sports/activities and seeing each of them graduate from college.  He will be greatly missed.

Family and friends are invited to attend his Funeral Service 11 AM, Saturday, September 25, 2021 at Scanlin-McDonald Funeral Home, 175 E. Butler Ave., Chalfont PA where his viewing will begin at 9 AM. Interment will be private.
