Philip C. Holmen, a resident of Doylestown, passed away Thursday, June 8, 2017 at Doylestown Hospital. He was 81. Born in Bronxville, NY, he was the son of the late George and Katherine Holmen. Phil is survived by his loving wife Jeannine (Calande) Holmen, his beloved children Cheryl H. Dean (Nick) of CA, David P. Holmen (Mercedes) of Buckingham, and Debbie Holmen of FL, and four granddaughters Paige, Krissy, Ali, and Sammie. He was predeceased by his brother G. Robert Holmen.
Phil was a 1957 graduate of the US Naval Academy and received his MBA from the Amos Tuck School at Dartmouth. He and his wife owned and managed Holmen’s Nursery and Florist in Buckingham. Phil was a parishioner at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel, and he was a member of the men’s choir. He was an active member of the American Order of Hibernians and a member of the Rotary Club. Having always loved the ocean, he enjoyed sailing on the Chesapeake Bay with his family and friends during his retirement. He was renowned for his sense of humor and wit.
Friends and family are invited to celebrate his life at a Funeral Mass, 10am Thursday, June 15 at Our Lady of Czestochowa, 654 Ferry Road, Doylestown where the family will receive guests beginning at 9am. Interment with full military honors will follow in Our Lady of Czestochowa Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Phil’s memory may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675 or the Salk Institute for Biological Studies for cancer research, 10010 N. Torrey Pines Road, La Jolla, CA. 92037.
