Peggy S. Marvel 82, Educator/Former Dean of Students at P.S.D. (Pennsylvania School for the Deaf), Realtor & Broker
Peggy S. Marvel, 82 , of Lansdale, Pennsylvania, an Educator that served as the former Dean of Students at the Pennsylvania School for the Deaf, as well as a Realtor and Real Estate Broker, passed away on Thursday, March 30, 2017.
Peggy Marvel was born and raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She was a graduate of Nazareth Academy (H.S. 1952), Temple University (B.S. 1958), Gallaudet College (M.A. in Education 1967) and the University of Maryland, where she pursued a Doctorate in Special Education with a Specialization in Administrative/Consultative Assistance within a State, Region or Local arena (1973).
As to certifications, Peggy held a permanent Teacher certification in Health and Physical Education, as well as certification as a Specialist of the Hearing Impaired. She also retained memberships in the Council for Exceptional Children; the Convention of American Instructors for the Deaf; the National Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf; and the Greater Philadelphia Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf. She also held both a Real Estate license and a Broker's License in the States of Pennsylvania and New Jersey.
Peggy dedicated her early career to children that were hearing impaired. She served as a Teacher, Coach, Girls Athletic Director, Dean of Girls and the Dean of Students at the Pennsylvania School for the Deaf.
In her later career, Peggy became a realtor and a broker and worked at Kenneth Kratz Realty and Weichert Realty in Lansdale, Pennsylvania.
Yet perhaps, Peggy's greatest love was as a founding member of Mary Mother of the Redeemer Church, in North Wales, Pennsylvania. She was a dedicated parishioner and volunteered as a Eucharistic Minister for many years. In her role as a Eucharistic Minister, several times a week, Peggy would visit local homes and nursing facilities to bring the Eucharist to those individuals that were unable to attend church. Nothing would ever dissuade her from this vocation.
Peggy enjoyed golf, baseball, football and college basketball. She was a diehard fan of the Phillies, Eagles, Notre Dame, Villanova and Temple.
Peggy is survived by her sister, Germaine Harun and her brother, Edward Marvel. Her sister, Nancy Binczewski, died in 1980. Peggy is also survived by her eleven nieces and nephews and was a beloved Aunt.
Peggy will always be remembered for her love of life, dry wit, quest for mischief and her devout Catholic faith. Also noteworthy were her dedication and commitment to her late sister Nancy's four children.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 4, 2017 at Mary Mother of the Redeemer Catholic Church. 1325 Upper State Road, North Wales, PA 19454 where the viewing will begin at 10AM. Interment will follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
