Norma V. Grundstrom

Norma V. Grundstrom, 91, cherished mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, was called home to be with the Lord on March 4, 2025. A resident of Chalfont PA, she was born in Philadelphia PA and was one of seven children of the late John Schaad Sr. and Viola Custard Schaad.

She is survived by her daughters Sharon L. O’Hara of Brownsburg IN, N. Jeanne Murray of Willow Grove PA, and Faith E. Musngi (Ronilo) of Pequea PA. She is also survived by ten grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren. She is predeceased by her husband, Herbert W. Grundstrom Jr., her daughter, Beverly L. Akers, and her brothers and sisters, of which she was the youngest and last remaining child.

Norma grew up in the Somerton neighborhood of Philadelphia. She spoke of memories of pets, trips to the New Jersey shore, and her beloved grandmother, Gammy. It was Gammy who sparked a lifelong love of sewing in Norma.

Norma’s great joys in life were her family and sewing. She made clothing for her daughters when they were children (as well as their dolls). Later she began quilting and making other crafts through her business called Norma’s Needles. She sold much of her art in craft shows and consignment shops. She also loved to crochet and later learned to knit; she especially loved making blankets and dishcloths. She spent many happy moments quilting with her daughters, Bev and Sharon. Norma’s artistic talents and creations hold a special place in the hearts and homes of her loved ones and others.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday March 29, 2025, at 12 PM at Scanlin McDonald Funeral Home 175 East Butler Avenue Chalfont, PA 18914. Family will receive guests at the funeral home Saturday after 11 AM. A private interment will be in Forest Hills Cemetery in Philadelphia at a later date.
