Mary E. Murphy, 92 of New Britain, Pa. died peacefully at her home on Thursday March 3, 2022 surrounded by her family. She was the wife of the late James J. Murphy and mother to Maryellen McCann ( James), Dennis ( Bernadette), James ( Patricia) and Colleen Pond ( James). In addition to her four children, she is survived by her beloved sister, Patricia A. Bransfield ( Edmund) of Chester County, Pa. 15 Grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Mary was born in Philadelphia to Patrick and Mary Moran she was the second of four children. Mary graduated in 1947 with honors from Melrose Academy. Upon graduation, she entered the workforce including positions at Provident Bank, Land Title Building and later the Hoover Company, although working outside the home she often said her greatest role was wife and mother. Mary met the love of her life James J. Murphy at the Immaculate Conception Parish Hall Friday night dance. Their courtship led to the couple being married in 1957. Soon after their family started, they moved from Philadelphia to New Britain to raise their children both immersing themselves into new schools , sports teams and various clubs. From 1957 and until Jim’s death in 2017 their love for one another was evident by their 60 years of marriage. Throughout her life, Mary exemplified consistency and determination. Without hesitation, she cared for her elderly parents, siblings and her husband James while they were in need of end of life care. She never questioned nor complained about difficult roles. She truly understood that she was doing God's work while caring for others. She often said, “ Cleanliness is next to godliness and treating one another with dignity and compassion is what we are supposed to do.” She was a trailblazer in taking care of those most vulnerable at their home before it became the norm. Mary’s devotion to her faith, family and friends was evident throughout her life. She was an inspiration to all who knew her. Relatives and friends are invited to Mary’s visitation at St. Jude Catholic Church 321 West Butler Avenue Chalfont, PA 18914 Wednesday March 9, 2022 from 10 -11 AM followed by her Funeral Mass at 11 AM. Interment Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Jude Catholic School Education center in Mary’s name would be appreciated.
