Marie C. Slack

Marie C. Slack (nee Cassel), 98, of Chalfont, PA passed away peacefully at Hidden Meadows on the Ridge in Sellersville, PA on October 24, 2024. She was born in Line Lexington, PA and was a lifelong resident of Chalfont, PA. Marie was the daughter of Samuel G. Cassel and Ida I. Cassel (nee Crouthamel). She was the beloved wife of 64 years to the late Dothard M. Slack.

Marie was predeceased by her brothers, Stanley Cassel and York Cassel; her sister, Eileen Arnold; sisters-in-law, Theresa Cassel and Irene Cassel, and brother-in-law Keith Arnold.

She is survived by her son, D. Keith Slack; brother Samuel H. Cassel; sister-in-law, Sue Cassel; Grandchildren, Brian Slack, Heather Kline (Tom), Karl Kapps (Jess), and Mark Kapps. Great-grandchildren, Sage and Arden Kline, and Elliot, Glory and Oliver Kapps. She was also a loving aunt to many nieces and nephews.

Marie graduated with a bachelor's degree from West Chester University majoring in music education. Her career spanned 35+ years in elementary school vocal music education for grades 1-6. She was employed by the North Penn School District at the old E.B. Laudenslager and A.M. Kulp elementary schools. In the Central Bucks School District, she taught at the Titus and John Barclay elementary schools. Marie was known for her dedication to teach and help to get the best out of every child through the power of music. Many students were influenced by her, and they went on to have great musical careers, whether it be in teaching or singing. In the earlier years, she played the organ for many local churches and wedding events.

Marie loved to tend to her flowerbeds and vegetable gardens from which she canned or froze the fruits of her labor. She loved not just flowers and gardens but also birds and animals. Sewing, needlework, knitting and crocheting were some of her relaxing pastimes. She also joined the quilters club at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Hilltown, PA of which she is a member.

Marie also loved to travel with her husband, family and friends. She was a great photographer of life and her travels. She visited most of the U.S.A and always had a blast on the cruise ships at different ports of call. Marie liked to entertain friends and family with good food, games, practical jokes and always celebrated birthdays and Christmas traditions.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, October 30, 2024, at St. Peters Lutheran Church,1530 Augsburg Dr, Hilltown Twp, Pa 18927. Relatives and friends are invited to a visitation at the church beginning at 10AM, followed by the service at 11AM. Burial to immediately after the service.
