Loretta M. Landes, 88, of Yardley, PA, formerly of Chalfont, passed away peacefully in her sleep on January 11 th , 2021, at the University of Pennsylvania hospital after visiting with her five children. She was predeceased by her husband of 50 years, Clair F. Landes, who died in 2001. She is survived by her children: Steve (Susie), Jane Naylor (Russ), Brian (Susie), Carol Franklin (Lou) and Christine MacElroy (Scott), 18 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Loretta spent much time as a young girl at the Pearl S. Buck House in Hilltown, PA, where her mother worked as a secretary She graduated from Souderton High School, meeting her future husband after graduation while working as a receptionist at the Souderton Independent, a local newspaper. After marriage and as the family grew, Loretta's career transitioned to her passion which was raising her children in Chalfont, PA. She and Clair were among the first residents of the Brittany Farms housing development and a founding family of St. Jude's Church. Loretta's neighbors on Hampshire Drive became her lifelong friends and she loved being part of their bridge club. Later in life, Loretta served as the Director of Security for Delaware Valley College.
After retirement, she worked for Newtown Dentistry for Kids, the dental practice owned by her daughter, Christine. She built many new friendships among the members of the practice.
Loretta lived independently in Chalfont for many years, which were extended thanks to the loving care of Jane and Russ who took care of yardwork, grocery shopping and any task that became too difficult. For the past two years, Loretta has enjoyed living in Yardley with Christine, Scott and their 8 children. Her days were full and happy, spent cheering at soccer games, sitting by the pool, reading, solving crossword puzzles, and enjoying the pets. She was especially fond of the dog, Blizzard, who was often her companion on the couch. She also travelled to Disney, Napa Valley, New York, the Poconos, the beach and went on many cruises. Loretta had unending energy and enthusiasm for life, and never let her health challenges keep her from enjoying new experiences. Loretta was known for her warmth, wit, sage advice, and a practicality of thought that made hard things seem easier.
Loretta left behind the great legacy of a close and loving family, who were her greatest source of pride and happiness.
Memorial services for Loretta will be private. Donations in Loretta's name can be made to the donor's favorite charity.
