Loretta Barr Clift, a woman loved by so many, passed away at the age of 68 on April 26, 2023, in her childhood home in Chalfont, Pennsylvania surrounded by her family and loved ones. Loretta was born in October of 1954 to Beatrice and Edward Barr as one of six daughters. Loretta graduated from Central Bucks West High School followed by East Stroudsburg University, where she met Gary Clift, the father of her children.
Loretta enjoyed an extensive career of service. She spent over 20 years at Colmar working in Early Childhood Intervention, ensuring that underserved children in Philadelphia received the services that they needed for proper development. She led volunteer efforts around the holidays to provide gifts for the children in her program. Loretta returned to school and received a Master of Science in Organizational Dynamics from the University of Pennsylvania. She continued her dedication to service, spending the last 8 years at Resources for Human Development in Philadelphia, where she specialized in team development.
Loretta became a coach for Weight Watchers after completing her own weight loss journey, inspiring and encouraging many others to do the same. Loretta’s ability to empathize and connect with people made her a natural coach. During this time, she discovered her love for 5k road races and participated in several over the years.
Loretta was devoted to her church, Lenape Valley Presbyterian. She served as an Elder and was an active member of their book group. Every year she helped to organize the Lenten Devotional and encouraged other members to share their stories.
True to her life of service, Loretta spent years taking care of her younger sister, Pamela (Pam), who was diagnosed with MS in her early adulthood. Loretta visited Pam every weekend and took her to family events. Loretta personally ensured that Pam always had company up until her passing in 2018.
Loretta is survived by her three children, Erica, Daniel, and Jarrad, and their wives, Heather, Renee, and Katie. She had two grandchildren, Aliyah and Ian, who she loved deeply. She is also survived by her mother Beatrice and four sisters, Beverly, Candace, Noreen, and Marlene, as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Preceded in death by her father, Edward J. Barr and her sister, Pamela Barr Westphal.
A memorial service will be held at Lenape Valley Presbyterian on May 27, 2023. Visitation will begin at 10am and the service at 11am.
