Lisa C. Baxter, 60, of Chalfont, PA passed away at home on September 23, 2024 after an
extended battle with cancer. She was the beloved wife of Steven M. Baxter for 36 years and
loving mother to Colin Baxter and Liam Baxter. She recently became a grandmother to Eleanor
Baxter and Beatrice Baxter. She is survived by two sisters, Karen Adams and Julia Williamson,
and by her mother Norma Cummings. She was preceded in death by her father Donald J.
Cummings.
Lisa and Steve met as undergraduates at California Institute of Technology where she received
a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering. She later earned a Master’s degree in Computer
Science at UNC Chapel Hill. She worked as a software engineer with Hughes Aircraft in
California and with UGM Medical Systems in Philadelphia before devoting herself to being a full-
time mom to her two boys.
Lisa was active in her sons’ lives and in the community. Her major volunteer commitments have
been to the American Cancer Society, Boy Scouts, and to her church where she was Head Elder
and loved to prepare and serve communion on Sunday. When the opportunity presented itself,
she took a part-time job as administrative assistant in the church office. She loved the daily
interaction with other church members and the pastoral staff.
She inherited a love of travel from her parents which she passed along to her own family.
During her life she was able to travel to Europe, South America, and Africa and continued to
travel even during her illness. She also loved making quilts for her family to mark their
significant milestones. She will be remembered for her caring heart, her determination, and her
loyalty to friends and family. As one close friend put it, “A great light has gone out.” She will be
deeply missed.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, October 18, 2024, at Pleasantville United Church of
Christ, 3424 Limekiln Pike, Chalfont, PA 18914. Relatives and friends are invited to a visitation
at the church beginning at 10 AM, followed by the service at 11 AM. In lieu of flowers, donations in Lisa’s
