Karl S. Mitchell, aged 45, passed away unexpectedly Thursday November 25th 2021. Preceded in death by his father Bruce, he was the son of JoAnne (Viteo), husband to Gwen (Gottshall), father to Cody and Ryan, younger brother to Sean (Tracey), older brother to Michele (Dave) & Uncle to Alexis, Bruce and Dylan. Born in Elkins Park January 16th, 1976 to Bruce and JoAnne Mitchell, Karl was by all accounts, a mischievous little red head. He loved riding his dirt bikes, his quads, playing the Atari, fishing and of course watching the Flyers. He was always up to something and usually got caught . Being the typical middle child, he would then blame it on his brother Sean or sister Michele, to which earned him the loving nickname “Carol”. Finding a love for working with wood in Tech School, and graduating from C.B. West in 1994, Karl became a Master Carpenter by trade and founded his own business KSM Contracting, Inc. When not building additions, new bathrooms or snow plowing, Karl loved to camp with his family. After many trips up north, he elected himself to be the campfire police as he would make sure the fire stayed lit all night by “watching” it while everyone else slept. In the morning we could always find him in his chair next to the flames, with country music playing on the radio, just “resting his eyes” as he would put it. Karl was an avid hunter and enjoyed weekends at his cabin in Pike County. He had a soft spot for dogs, once bringing home a pup in high school unbeknownst to Mom and Dad, whom he named Hannibal. Adding later to his family was Shadow, and most recently his rescue Rocky. A homebody by nature, Karl somehow convinced Gwen and the kids to drive cross-country to one of his favorite places - Angel Fire, NM. After a 2 week trip, and a few speeding tickets later, it was decided they would fly next time. Karl was extremely proud of his sons, Cody and Ryan each in their own right - Cody with his growing interest in following in his footsteps in carpentry and Ryan with his love of football (especially since Karl was too small for anything past the Warminster Pioneers). For a man that loved his cheesesteaks and had a distain for anything green, it was surprising to all on how lean and fit Karl was. And more so how fast of a runner he was. We are still trying to figure out how he beat some of his teammates down the mountain during a 5K Mud Run…..(we still think he drove somehow!) Karl was a friend to many whom you could call for anything at anytime. He would be there, no questions ask - whether it be help with a car, needing a snowplow, or help with a leaky roof, Karl would be there in a heartbeat. Sure, he’d complain about it later to anyone that would listen, but he’d still be there to help a friend. Karl will be sorely missed by all. His raspy laugh. His cowboy hat. And of course, those “minor” embellishments that made every version of a story more interesting than the last. Rest in Peace Karl.
