John J. Sullivan, Jr.

ohn J Sullivan, Jr., "Jack" spent his final moments surrounded by family in their Brittany Farms home on July 4, 2021.  He was the beloved husband of Mary Anne (Varker) for 61 years and is survived by their four children: Kevin of Center Valley, Stephen of Hawaii, Christopher (Kim) of Wernersville and Bridget (Collette), of Connecticut; six grandchildren - Erin (John Vincent), Colin, Kaitlyn, Shannon, Ian Sullivan and Hope Claire Sullivan, and three great-grandchildren.  He is also survived by sisters Mary Ellen Berger (Pittsburgh), and Sister Margaret Jude, SSJ (Trudy) of St. Bridget's Convent in Philadelphia.  He was predeceased by sister, Margaret.

Jack was born in 1935 in the West Oak Lane neighborhood of Philadelphia to parents John J Sullivan, Sr. and Gertrude Sullivan (Costigan) and attended St. John's High School.  After graduating from Villanova University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering, Jack went on to work for the Philadelphia Electric Company for more than 30 years as Manager of Technical Services.  He taught architectural and illumination engineering at Drexel University as an adjunct professor for many years, as well as being an energy consultant after retiring from PECO.  He also served on the Board of Directors of the St. Joseph's Villa in Flourtown.

Jack and his wife Mary Anne were founding members of St. Jude Parish and Jack was especially passionate about creating the church's CYO sports program.  For more than 25 years, he coached countless youth basketball teams.  He was an active church member, lector and was deeply involved in the design/build process of the current church building after the fire in 1984.An avid golfer, Philly sports fan, amateur photographer, and great friend, he will be missed by many.

Friends and family are invited to celebrate his Funeral Mass 11:30 AM, Thursday, July 15, 2021 at St. Jude Church, 321 West Butler Ave., Chalfont, PA where the greeting will begin at 10:30 AM.  An Evening Visitation will also be held 7-9 PM, Wednesday, July 14, 2021 at Scanlin Funeral Home, 175 East Butler Ave., Chalfont, PA.    In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Jack's name to your favorite cause(s).
