John grew up on Springfield Ave in Philadelphia, Pa. After his father passed away John was enrolled and
attended Girard College from 3 rd grade until he graduated in June of 1960. While at Girard he excelled at
soccer and wrestling where he was called “Killer Kane” on the mat!! His classmates described him as the
top outstanding athlete of their graduating class in June of 1960. From there he went on to East
Stroudsburg for a year where he played soccer and then onto Lasalle College to finish his degree with a
Bachelors in business.
While working at TWA at the Philadelphia airport he met the love of his life Catherine Allard and they
wed on August 12, 1967. They were together for 37 years until her untimely death in July of 2004. He
and Catherine and their two girls lived in many states over the years. They finally put their roots down
in Warrington Bucks County in 1980. Through the years John loved coaching Boys’ soccer for
Warrington township. The lasting impact and memories he shared still resonate with his former
athletes today. John was an avid sports fan! Whether it was cheering on his girls at their field hockey
games or his beloved hometown teams the Eagles and Phillies, he just couldn’t get enough of it!
John was a devoted American and served his country in The Pennsylvania National Guards for 32 years,
retiring as Major in 1992. After retiring from the military, he went on to work in transportation for
Federal express for 17 years.
During the later parts of his life, he fulfilled a lifelong dream of returning to Arizona. He enjoyed living
there for the past 8 years and loved to golf every chance he could get with his lifelong buddy Vince. He
loved to travel and was blessed to go to Ireland to see where his family roots came from. He also
adored his 7 grandchildren and loved being able to watch and hear all about their accomplishments.
Whether it was academic or on the playing fields he could not get enough of it. To say he was Proud of
them all was an understatement!
Finally, the word “FAMILY” meant more to John that could be described with pen and paper. It runs
deep through every layer of his bloodline. From his Grandparents, Parents, Siblings, Aunts, Uncles,
Cousins, wife, children and grandchildren. He loved them all fiercely! He was so proud to be a KANE and
those on the receiving end were so lucky to experience it!
