Gary J. Horter, Sr. (February 28, 1946 – December 24, 2024)
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Gary J. Horter, Sr., beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Gary passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by the love of his family. Born in Philadelphia, PA, to Harold and Helen (Stock) Horter, who passed away when he was young, Gary lived a life marked by resilience, creativity, and unmatched generosity of spirit.
A 35-year resident of Warminster, PA, Gary leaves behind his devoted wife of 58 years, Patricia Ann (Wartman), and his loving children: Lori (Paul) Moser, Cheryl (Sean) Scavillo, Heather, and Gary Jr. He was a proud grandfather to Christopher (Tia), Nicole (Kevin), Paul, Jordan (Kyra), Gabriel, Maximus, and Meadow, and a cherished great-grandfather to Charlie, Hayden, London, Roman, and Jagger. He also leaves behind his beloved older brothers, Harold (Ellie) and Brian, with whom he shared many treasured memories. Known affectionately as “Uncle Gary” to many, he was a cherished friend and a beacon of kindness to all who knew him.
A skilled home builder, Gary ran his own construction company for decades, finding his greatest joy in creating and renovating homes for family and friends. He also served as a mentor to many entering the construction trade, sharing his knowledge, craftsmanship, and passion for the work. His craft was a reflection of his generous spirit, as he often helped others with a kind word or a helping hand.
Gary was a lifelong learner who spent his free time avidly reading and exploring new skills, particularly related to construction. He loved reviewing online content and YouTube videos to stay up to date and discover innovative techniques. His strong sense of humor, evident throughout his life, brought laughter and light to those around him—even in his final days.
A proud Marine veteran, Gary held deep respect for those who served their country. He found joy in RV trips with his wife Pat, visits to the casino, cowboy movies, lively discussions about politics, and spending time with good company. Over the past eight years, his Yorkshire Terrier, Chase, brought him immense happiness and was a constant companion during life’s joys and challenges.
Gary’s legacy of love, generosity, and enduring family values will continue to inspire those who knew him.
Relatives and friends are invited to his viewing at Saint Jude’s Roman Catholic Church and Shrine 321 West Butler Avenue Chalfont, PA 18914, on Saturday, December 28, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM.
