Time marches on – I can hear the sounds - tic-tock, tic-tock. I can sense the passage of time

from April 22, 2008 when my husband Michael began his own journey and August 18, 2024

when I succumbed to the ravages of the memory robing disease that made me slowly forget

who I was. After my husband passed I focused all my attention on those relatives and friends

who remained. I hope I added value to their lives as they so clearly added joy and happiness

to mine. I truly apologize for any of my words or actions that caused you harm or discomfort –

that was never my intent. Treat each other well and value those who are important to you.

Let them know that you love and respect them.

I spent my final years at a memory care facility; knowing how it would all end. It was just a

question of when. The last few weeks have been particularly difficult for me as I am feeling

more detached from this world. Perhaps I have been here too long.

I want to thank the facility and hospice staff for their attention these last days and value the

care given to me and the support provided to those around me. When my time finally came I

immediately recovered my memories – sharp, clear and distinct – remembering all those

whose lives touched mine and made my stay here worthwhile.

Tic-tock, tic-tock – it is time for me to go - as your friend, great grandmother, grandmother,

sibling and mother I want to thank all of you who came today to pay your final respects as well

as those who could not personally be here. My last memories of this reality, now your reality

– is of two voices, one reading a page from a silly book that I do not care about – and another

voice coming from a bright light now very close to me – it is my husband Michael calling me to

him and I am thinking only three words – together again, forever.
