Conrad Elerton Evelyn, Jr. passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 16, 2018, after a brief hospitalization at Doylestown Hospital.
Conrad was born in Brooklyn, NY on July 23, 1923 to Conrad Evelyn Sr. and Mildred Evans Evelyn. He grew up in Bedford Stuyvesant and is a product of New York City schools, graduating from Boys High. He served in the US Navy and was stationed in Guam during World War II. After military service, Conrad lived and worked briefly in Washington DC. His working career was spent in Brooklyn with the US Postal Service. He met Melanie Davis Evelyn, his wife of over 60 years, at the Brevoort Station -1205 Atlantic Avenue. "Connie" was the mayor of Brooklyn. Rarely could you walk with him and not hear someone call out " Hey, Junie", "Hey Connie". He loved Jones Beach, bowling, and actively followed the Knicks, the Mets, and the Eagles.
Upon retirement from the Post Office, after over 30 years, Conrad worked briefly with NYC Transit as he waited for Melanie to retire from her career as a NYC schoolteacher. The two began an active retirement life in Bucks County in 1987 at the time of the birth of their third grandson, Christopher Leslie. Conrad joined Chalfont United Methodist Church, along with Melanie. Conrad continued his interests in bowling, sports, and being a great husband, dad and grandfather - and wise advisor-in-chief to his children, their friends, and many seeking the secret to his good life.
Predeceased by his parents, his sister Enid Evelyn Wilkinson, and son Michael Conrad Evelyn, Conrad leaves behind to cherish his memory: his devoted wife, Melanie; their daughter, Denyse Evelyn Leslie, and son, Roger Conrad Evelyn; three grandchildren - Jamilah Evelyn Simmons, Mikal Evelyn, and Christopher Jonathan Leslie, and five great grandchildren. A devoted sister-in-law - Delores Daniel, and brother-in-law Cleveland Davis, their children, and many cousins, nieces and nephews residing in Barbados will mourn him as well as his many Bucks County neighbors and friends and their families.
Conrad was good with God. He lived fully, gratefully, and with much love directed at him - all of which he sent "right back at you" with a smile.
