Betty Pyle Williams of Doylestown, formerly a longtime resident of Chalfont, passed away peacefully in the presence of
family on Monday, May 29, 2023.
Betty was born April 22, 1924, in Ronco, PA to Glenn and Grace Pyle. She graduated from West Virginia University with a
degree in Home Economics and was a member of Phi Epsilon Omicron, the national Home Ec honor society. She worked
as an Extension Agent for Doddridge County, WV. It was during this time that a coworker introduced her brother, Cassel
Williams, to Betty. He soon became her beloved husband of 71 years. Cassel predeceased her in November 2019.
Together Betty and Cassel (after 26 moves for his work) settled on Upper State Road in Chalfont where they raised five
children and a huge garden. Betty was a wonderful stay-at-home mother who always showed her love for her family.
She canned and froze the produce of the garden, taught her children to cook, and sewed many of their clothes. She was
a beautiful and godly woman, well-loved by all who knew her.
Betty was very active in multiple roles at Chalfont United Methodist Church and Pleasantville United Church of Christ.
She served the Boy Scouts of America in several capacities and received many awards including the Silver Beaver, their
highest award for distinguished service. Betty volunteered at Meals on Wheels for 32 years, made lap robes for older
adults, and knitted countless infant hats for Doylestown Hospital.
Betty is survived by her children Larry Williams (Francine), Sandy Shaffer, Lois Tobin (Wayne), Glenn Williams (Lori), and
Lewis Williams (Paula Getz) as well as seven grandchildren Stephanie Williams, Pam Altman (Wally), Adam Shaffer (Kelli),
Adrian Shaffer, Colby Sweeney (Matt), Chase Williams, and Carson Williams.
Betty’s family has no adequate words to express their deep admiration for and appreciation of the loving care shown to
Betty by all members of the staff at Lakeview Personal Care.
Betty’s life will be celebrated on Thursday, June 8 at Chalfont United Methodist Church, 11 Meadowbrook Lane, Chalfont,
PA 18914. The family will receive visitors after 9:30 am with service to follow at 10:30; interment at Beulah Cemetery.
