Anthony William Thomas Voss Sr., known to friends and family as Tony, or Big Tone, aged 84
of Chalfont passed away on June 26, 2024.
Tony was born in Philadelphia to mother, Clara (nee Kitchen) in 1939. William Albert Voss,
Tony’s stepfather, helped raise him from age 2, eventually adopting “little” Tony at age 23. Tony
attended Dobbins Vocational Technical School (Philadelphia). In a Dobbins hallway in 1955 he
first laid eyes on what would become the love of his life, Florence. They were married on
September 26, 1959. Together they had a son, Anthony Jr (aka Smoke), and a daughter,
Barbara.
Tony had an incredible work ethic, and spent most of his working days in the printing business.
He was drafted into the Army in 1963 where he worked on the printing of maps including
Vietnam and various other countries. Additionally, he served the Intelligencer newspaper, and
also owned a street sweeping business. Tony’s proof-reading position was
dissolved/outsourced in 2015. He refused to retire, and found work at Giant supermarket. Tony
left Giant in 2021 due to his health, and missed it every single day.
Tony enjoyed coaching Barb’s little league softball teams, watching the 76’ers, the Eagles, and
especially the Phillies. Tony was an avid fisherman, gym fanatic, and lover of vehicles. He
owned over 60 vehicles through the years. He especially loved his red Jeep which he started
decorating and riding in the Chalfont 4th of July parade after spontaneously joining one July 4th
after going to the gym and happenstanced upon it.
Tony was outgoing and friendly. He would happily regale anyone who would listen with a chat
or story. He will be forever missed by many friends and family. He is survived by his doting wife
Florence, his loving son Tony Jr/Smoke (Lauren), devoted daughter Barb Schaffer, grand-dogs
Ginny Schmoo and Podrick, sister-in-law Barbara Hartley, nieces Pamela McBride (Brendan),
and Trisha Oniskey (Nicholas) and nephew Frank Hartley (Carol Ann) along with many cousins,
great nieces and nephews, and friends.
