Anthony (Tony) Canavatchel, Sr., age 61, passed away at his home in
Venice, FL on March 8th, 2024. His family is deeply saddened by
his unexpected death.
While the last years of his life were spent in Florida, his true home
was New Jersey. Tony was born on November 11th, 1962 in
Camden to Esther and Raymond Canavatchel. He spent his
childhood playing baseball and getting into mischief. He was
known for his great sense of humor, athleticism, and many
friends.
His daughter, Kristen (Canavatchel) Sinclair always held a special place in his heart
as his firstborn child.
On October 7th, 1989, he married the love of his life, Andrea
(Lanutti) Canavatchel. Together they raised three children (Alexis,
Amanda, and Anthony), two dogs, and contributed significantly to their
community in Cherry Hill. His children grew up on family dinners,
trips to the beach, laughter, and being called into service by their
Dad to go pick up candy or "something sweet". They always knew
with 100% certainty that their father loved them.
Tony was incredibly proud of his children and their
accomplishments. He enjoyed having his children with him on car
rides so they had a chance to talk about their lives and goals. On
one such ride from the airport, his daughter asked him what his
dreams were. He told her that all of her dreams were now his
dreams, and watching her be successful made him
happy. Clearly, he felt this way for all of his children.
He served as a sheriff's officer in Camden County for 25 years.
Tony took his responsibility for justice seriously. He served on his chapter
of the Police Benevolent Association and
was committed to advocating for the needs of his fellow officers.
He leaves behind a legacy of loyalty, humor, family, and love.
He is survived by his wife Andrea, four children, Kristen Sinclair (Michael), Alexis
Canavatchel (Samantha), Amanda Canavatchel, and Anthony Canavatchel, Jr. (Soha).
He is also survived by his grandchildren Brody and Carson Sinclair, his mother Esther Canavatchel (the late Raymond), siblings Linda Cox (Les), RoseAnne Scanlin (James), and Michael Canavatchel (Patricia), and innumerable family,
loved ones, and friends.
You will notice of all the words in this obituary, one of the most
frequent is love. To know Tony was to love him. Of all the
legacies he left behind, love is the most significant of all.
Until we meet again, he will be loved, he will be missed.
The memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 6th at 11:00
am at Givinish Funeral Home at 398 East Main St, Marlton, NJ
08053. Visitation with the family will begin at 9:30 am. As an avid
storyteller, we know Tony would want everyone to celebrate his
life by sharing memories together. Friends and family are
encouraged to think of a favorite memory they have of Tony to
share with each other.
