Albert Stanley Pietras of Sellersville, PA, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, Aug. 8, 2021.
Born on October 12, 1938, in Kearney, N.J., he is survived by his wife of 54 years, Concetta "Connie" Pietras; his son, Richard Pietras, and his daughter-in-law, Angela Mekosh; daughter, Diane Yaple, and his son-in-law, Michael Yaple; and his precious granddaughter, Ava Yaple, who became his pride and joy in his later years. Albert is also survived by his sister, Pat Ohleth, and his aunt, Jane Stanicki, as well as his dear nieces and nephews.
Albert loved the Jersey shore. Going to beach towns including Seaside Park and Spring Lake with family were coveted yearly events. Albert enjoyed spending time on the beach and in the ocean, where he often swam long distances along the shoreline to the dismay of whistling lifeguards who he ignored.
Albert also loved the arts, independent films, classic movies, and sports. He started a two-person book club with his daughter-in-law that lasted years and produced hours of enjoyment for both. While he followed the local Philadelphia teams, he and Connie held a special place in their hearts for their beloved Phillies.
An avid golfer who played into his 80s with a regular golf group-as well as with his son-he was a lifelong, multiple-sports athlete. Albert played basketball on the courts of St. Cecelia's High School of Kearny, alongside Emmy award-winning sports announcer Bill Raftery. Albert also played tennis, softball, bowling, and could take people's pride (or money) on a pool table.
Albert was always up for a challenge. Taking up distance running in his 30s, he finished the Provident Marathon at the age of 40, and in his 60s placed first in his age group in the local Turkey Trot race at Delaware Valley University.
He spent nearly 50 years living and raising a family in New Britain, PA., later retiring to Sellersville, PA. He graduated with a bachelor's degree from Rutgers University in Newark and served in the United States Army. This was followed by a 40-year career working as a general manager at Prudential Insurance, starting in N.J. and ending in PA. After retirement, Albert stayed busy by working part-time in a local insurance office-a second career that spanned 20 years-where he made more close friends, which he considered his second work family.
Albert will be remembered by his family and countless friends as an engaging, thoughtful, humble, and witty man who always put others before himself.
Friends and family are invited to attend his Funeral Service, 11 AM, Friday, Aug. 13, 2021 at Scanlin Funeral Home, 175 East Butler Ave., Chalfont, PA, where the viewing will start at 10 AM. Interment will be private.
